Costello says he won’t seek re-election to Congress

After 11 terms in Congress, U.S. Rep. Jerry Costello, D-Belleville, announced Tuesday he will not seek re-election as representative for the 12th District.

Costello scheduled a press conference for 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Louis Downtown Airport in Cahokia to formally announce his decision.

Costello, 62, has served in Congress since August, 1988, when he won a special election to replace longtime Congressman Mel Price, D-East St. Louis, who had died earlier that year.
